Mayoral candidates Alvin Brown and Mike Hogan met Friday in a public forum, answering questions from the First Coast Tiger Bay Club members ranging from Downtown development to hypothetically spending $100 million. The event was pegged as a debate but the format was a forum. It was their first public forum after the March 22 first election. The final question asked about the role of the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission. Hogan said he would immediately reel it into the mayor’s office and champion economic development much like Gov. Rick Scott. Brown said he would look at the commission for potential restructuring to ensure a greater return on investment for taxpayers while also helping to better leverage its assets, such as its ability to draw sporting events.
