• The Small Business Development Center Network will honor Florida Rep. Mia Jones for her unanimous election as chair of the Florida Legislative Black Caucus. The event is 5:30-7 p.m. Aug. 23 at the University of North Florida University Center. Jones, a Democrat representing District 14, also is a special assistant and director for boards and commissions for Mayor Alvin Brown.
• Jacksonville-based Web.com signed a definitive agreement to buy Network Solutions, creating a combined company that as of June 30 had about 3 million paying subscribers, more than 9 million domains under management and more than 1,900 employees worldwide. Web.com provides Internet services and online marketing solutions and Network Solutions provides website services, online marketing and global domain name registration, both focused on small and medium-sized businesses. Web.com estimates the market at more than $19 billion. David Brown is Web.com chairman and CEO. The transaction is expected to be completed this fall.
• The University of North Florida was named by The Princeton Review as one of the 135 institutions in its “Best in the Southeast” part of the “2012 Best Colleges: Region by Region.”

• Guy Van Arsdale has been named men’s lacrosse head coach at Jacksonville University, the second in JU history. He spent the past two seasons as head coach of Division III Colorado College, with previous experience as an assistant coach at Notre Dame and Penn State.
• First Coast Energy LLC seeks an environmental resource permit to build a Daily’s convenience store at northeast Baymeadows Road and Interstate 95. The St. Johns River Water Management District is reviewing the application.
• New officers are in charge at the Rotary Club of San Marco. Stephen Ramsey with Roadway Worker Training Inc. is president; Josh Becksmith with Brown & Brown of Florida is president-elect; Janet Reagor is vice president; Terri Florio is secretary; and John Dickenson is treasurer.
• The Northern District Conference of the Florida Federal Judicial Nominating Commission met July 29 in Tallahassee to interview applicants for the position of U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Florida. Three finalists were named, including U.S. Magistrate Monte Richardson of the Middle District Jacksonville Division. The other two are U.S. Magistrate Gary R. Jones of the Middle District Ocala Division and Circuit Judge Mark Walker of the 2nd Judicial Circuit.
• The Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce and the First Coast Business Leadership Network are so-sponsoring the “Disability Etiquette in the Workplace” workshop from 8:30-10 a.m. Aug. 19 at the CSX Southpoint operation at 6737 Southpoint Drive S. • The CoreLogic research group reports home prices in Jacksonville, including distressed sales, fell by 8.5 percent in June from June 2010 and dropped 10 percent in May from May 2010. Excluding distressed sales, the price declines were 1.1 percent in June and 3.6 percent in May.
