The Daily Record surveyed the 2011-15 City Council members about the current Council year. Their responses to five questions will be published over the coming weeks.

Richard Clark, a Republican, is president of Supreme Janitorial Service.

How have you prepared both personally and professionally for your role on City Council?
My family understands the commitment of being on City Council. Without the support of my wife and two children it would not be possible. My business, Supreme Janitorial, recognizes the need for small business people to serve our City.

Are you satisfied with your Council assignments — chairing the Finance Committee and serving as vice chair of Transportation, Energy & Utilities — and why do you believe you were chosen for them?
Yes. I fully support Stephen Joost, our Council president. I was chosen for them because of my experience, having served 6 years.

Which committees or assignments would you like next?
That is a decision for Bill Bishop, next year’s Council president.

Is serving on the Council a part-time or full-time job?
I have believed that the City Council job is a full-time job.

What’s the first piece of legislation you have introduced or will introduce in this Council year?
The repeal of a dedicated sole purpose fee to increase funding to JALA (Jacksonville Area Legal Aid).
