Usually associated with pinning on a shamrock for St. Patrick’s Day, another version of “wearing of the green” is under way at the Landing.
The former Copper Cellar and Southend Brewery on the ground floor at the east end of the river side of the Landing is being transformed into the Downtown location of Fionn MacCool’s Irish Pub.
The first step is a bright green paint job for the exterior that will be embellished with gold stars and a shiny gold awning.
The original Fionn MacCool’s opened in Jacksonville Beach more than six years ago.
In addition to a proper Irish makeover for the interior, the patio is being expanded all the way to the cul-de-sac to create a 200-seat beer garden.
The restaurant will serve its signature menu of fish and chips, bangers and mash and shepherd’s pie plus salads, sandwiches, entrees and the pub’s black & tan brownie with Guinness ice cream.
Several Irish brews will be on tap along with a selection of imported and domestic bottled brands.
“People have been telling us they wanted a real Irish pub Downtown and now we have one,” said Blakeley Ainsworth, Landing public relations and marketing coordinator.
She said Fionn MacCool’s should be open for business by early October, in plenty of time for the annual Florida-Georgia football game weekend.
