The Daily Record surveyed the 2011-15 City Council members about the current Council year. Their responses to five questions will be published over the coming weeks. Doyle Carter, a Republican, is a retired motorcycle accessories store owner and operator.
How have you prepared both personally and professionally for your role on City Council?
Having previously served on City Council, I knew what to expect personally and professionally. I also knew that without the Lord and my family’s blessings of running for Council, I would not be able to serve and represent the citizens of District 12 to the best of my ability.
Are you satisfied with your Council assignments and why do you believe you were chosen for them?
I support the Council president’s decision on assignments and I am willing to serve wherever I am needed. I look forward to being a part of the Land Use & Zoning and Recreation, Community Development, Public Health & Safety committees. I consider myself a good resource because of my passion for community involvement and city development.
Which committees or assignments would you like next?
I will be honored to serve in any capacity and hope that whichever committee I am assigned to will benefit as a result of my dedication and willingness to give my best.
Is serving on the Council a part-time or full-time job?
The position is considered a part-time job but it consumes many more hours and commitment of one’s life. Our city’s needs are tremendous and require a lot of time and attention. I have learned that my priorities must be in order and my time must be balanced in order to have a successful career as a City Council representative.
What’s the first piece of legislation you have introduced or will introduce in this Council year?
It was my honor to sponsor Resolution 2011-435, honoring and congratulating University of Florida softball player Michelle Moultrie on being named the most outstanding player at the NCAA Women’s College World Series. Michelle’s accomplishments represent hard work and dedication.
