The Florida Family Law American Inn of Court enlightened its members recently about the problems electronics can cause in family court procedures.

The organization presented a program at the Haskell Building in Riverside.

Smartphones and their various applications can make it difficult for attorneys and the court to determine what is real evidence and what is a fake, according to the presentation.

GPS applications are available that allow people to show a person at a location where they are not, such as a bar during time-sharing with their minor children.

“Spoofing” allows someone to fabricate a conversation. The presentation showed an example in which one party could fabricate a conversation with the other to inform them of a doctor’s appointment for a child. Because the conversation was a fake, the child doesn’t make the appointment and one side could accuse the other of negligence in a custody case.
