There are artists who work in studios or in the field. There are artists who own and work in galleries. Then there are artists who teach art to others.
The latter group is the focus of two exhibits now at the Museum of Contemporary Art along Laura Street at Hemming Plaza.
In the UNF Gallery there’s the 3rd annual University of North Florida Art and Design Faculty Exhibition. It features the work of the university’s artists and art educators and celebrates the partnership between UNF and MOCA.
The UNF Department of Art and Design is the largest university department devoted to the visual arts in North Florida, with more than 40 faculty members.
In addition to exhibiting at the museum, UNF’s artist/educators also teach classes at MOCA, curate exhibits, write catalogs and serve on committees and the museum’s board of trustees.
In the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Education Gallery, the work of art teachers from local public, private, charter, alternative and parochial schools is on display in “First Coast Portfolio: The works of Jacksonville Area Art Educators.”
The exhibit was juried by Jeffree Shalev, co-director of Nullspace Gallery.
Both exhibits will be at MOCA through Jan. 22. For museum hours, admission prices and membership information, visit www.mocajacksonville.org.
