• Fort Lauderdale attorney Eugene Pettis was elected president-elect of The Florida Bar for 2012-13. He will be the first African-American president in Florida Bar history. Pettis will be sworn in as president-elect at the Bar’s annual convention in June, when Tampa attorney Gwynne Alice Young will be sworn in as president. Pettis will become Bar president in 2013.

• Also at The Florida Bar, incumbents re-elected without opposition for two-year terms include S. Grier Wells from Jacksonville.

• Tickets are on sale for the Carpe Circa “Seize the Date” bachelor/bachelorette auction of local single attorneys hosted by the Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association to benefit Jacksonville Area Legal Aid. The event is Feb. 9 at The River Club Downtown. Tickets are $30 in advance or two for $50. Tickets the day of the event are $35. • The Paralegal Association of Florida Inc., First Coast Chapter, announces that the winner of the Jacksonville Jaguars football autographed by Marcedes Lewis is Megan Hartley. The benefit raised $1,000. Half will be donated to Community Connections on behalf of the Jaguars and the other half will be used for the chapter’s scholarship fund.

• Among office permits issued by the City, Dav-Lin Interior Contractors will build out space for the Jacksonville Business Journal at 200 W. Forsyth St., Suite 1301, at a project cost of $264,000.

• Gov. Rick Scott has appointed Florida Coastal School of Law Vice Dean Terri Dalvantes to the Jacksonville Aviation Authority. She will fill the open seat vacated by Jack Demetree, who had reached term limits. The appointment is subject to Senate approval.

• Attorney Christian George has joined the firm of Akerman Senterfitt. George is a member of The Jacksonville Bar Association Young Lawyers Section board of governors and was formerly with the firm of Liles, Gavin, Costantino, George & Dearing for four years.

• Jacksonville Community Council Inc.’s “Children 1-2-3” study committee resumes from 8:15-9:45 a.m. Jan. 4 at JCCI offices, 2434 Atlantic Blvd. For information about the study and JCCI, visit www.jcci.org.

• Baptist Health internal medicine physician James Fulmer has developed a new game of strategy that lends entertainment appeal to the practice of health care. Fulmer and his wife, Susan Gallo, recently launched “DOCTOR WARS The Hospital Strategy Game,” currently selling in Jacksonville at Baptist Health gift shops, pharmacies and www.Baptistonlinestore.com. A portion of the proceeds from sales will be directed to Baptist Health. The game’s objective is to win the most points by curing the most patients. The sicker the patients, the more points they are worth.

• Gov. Rick Scott announced the appointed Justin Quiggle, 16, of Ponte Vedra, to the Florida Commission on Community Service. The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
