How did you get involved?
I have always loved animals. They bring happiness to so many, but cannot speak for themselves. They need advocates. A friend of our family, Adm. Kevin Delaney and his wife, Pat, introduced me to the Jacksonville Humane Society and I have been a board member since 2007.
How can someone else get involved?
There are many levels of involvement. The Society had a devastating fire in 2007 that destroyed our facility. Thanks to the dedicated staff and volunteers, the Society has been operating Fully in Temporary modular housing since the fire. We need the help of the Jacksonville community to rebuild. You can donate to our capital building fund, volunteer some time walking the dogs, become foster parents, or attend one of our events, such as the “Fur Ball” or “Trails of Tails.” You can always call me at 634-0900 and I will put you in touch with the “powers that be.”
What have you learned/achieved through the experience?
The people who work with the Jacksonville Humane Society are the most dedicated group of individuals I have had the pleasure of being around. They strive every day to provide the best possible care and to find “forever homes” for animals.
What was the last book you read or are reading?
I just finished “The FairTax Book” by Neal Boortz and John Linder. I am currently reading “Running the Books” by Avi Steinberg.
