• Attorney Daniel Bean, a Navy veteran and past president of The Jacksonville Bar Association, has been elected president of the Jacksonville Historic Naval Ship Association. Also elected were Joe Snowberger, re-elected vice president; Mary Crawford, treasurer; and Jim Aldrich, secretary. John O’Neil is executive director. The organization wants to bring the retired guided missile destroyer USS Charles F. Adams back to Jacksonville as an interactive attraction downtown on the Southbank of the St. Johns River adjacent to the Acosta Bridge.

• At least a dozen City Council candidates are scheduled to take part in “Downtown Turnaround,” a forum presented by Downtown residents and Downtown Vision Inc. for candidates to weigh in on Downtown issues. • Jacksonville Jaguars owners Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver might not agree on all issues, but they did agree on one. “For the first time since I can remember, my wife and I have come out for the same candidate, Audrey Moran,” Weaver said Tuesday when asked about the Jacksonville mayoral race.
• Plans to close Monroe Street at the new Duval County Courthouse have been halted. City Council approved an amendment Tuesday night to delete Monroe Street-related language from a bill presented by the mayor’s office. Council member Michael Corrigan, who proposed the amendment on the floor, said the issue should be brought back to council as a single item after committee and community discussion.
• City Council also approved an emergency order to move the March 22 full council meeting to March 24. March 22 is election day.
• New officers at the Southside Business Men’s Club include President Ken Dean, First Vice President Galina Schott, Treasurer Mark Wilkinson and board of governors Chair John Hamel.
• Dr. Mary O’Connor, orthopedic surgeon and chair of the Mayo Clinic Florida Department of Orthopedic Surgery, will speak to the University of North Florida’s Us Group’s annual educational luncheon from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. March 1 at the UNF University Center.
