The Bryan-Gooding Planetarium at the Museum of Science & History will present a live broadcast of the launch of the space shuttle Atlantis, marking the end of the shuttle program.

Atlantis is scheduled to launch for its final 12-day mission at 11:26 a.m. Friday.

The doors to the planetarium will open at 11 a.m. to allow guests to watch pre-coverage of the launch and will remain open until 11:50 p.m. so that guests can also experience the post-coverage of the historic launch.

This mission of Atlantis will be the final chapter in the 30-year story that is the legacy of the space shuttle, said Thomas Webber, planetarium program director.

“It marks the end of an era and a time to celebrate the accomplishments and science that the fleet has brought to the world. We are excited to share this historic moment with our visitors,” he said.

Watching the shuttle launch in the Bryan-Gooding Planetarium is included with museum admission, which is $5 every Friday.
