Work is progressing on the removal and replacement of the Belgian block road surface in the roundabout on Laura Street at the Landing.

The redo began July 5 and already, the blocks have been pulled out and stacked around the Andrew Jackson statue. The asphalt road bed has also been removed.

It will be replaced with concrete and the blocks will be reinstalled with a rigid grout material supporting them, similar to the installations at the other intersections along Laura Street from the Landing to Hemming Plaza. Based on the unsuitability of the original surface, the cost of the repair is being borne by the design engineering firm, not the City, said Paul Crawford, deputy executive director of the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission and the Laura Street project manager.

The work is estimated to be completed within 40 days from start to finish.
