Wells Fargo requests a special sign exception to post its name on the former Modis Building at 1 Independent Drive Downtown. The bank, which bought Wachovia and is relocating the offices to the tower, plans to post its name on top and along the ground-level entrances, for a total of 11 signs. It also proposes four free-standing monument directory signs. While Wells Fargo typically uses yellow letters on a red accent panel, it proposes a neutral accent panel for the high-rise signage rather than red. The Jacksonville Economic Development Commission Downtown Development Review Board will consider the request at a meeting Thursday. Board staff is recommending conditional approval if some changes are made. Wells Fargo lists the project timeframe as Aug. 19-Sept. 4.
