U.S. Navy Capt. Jeffrey Maclay (left), Naval Air Station Jacksonville commanding officer, presented an annual “State of the Base” report Friday to more than 120 political and community leaders. His report included updates on base construction projects, such as the P-8 training facility slated for completion by the end of the year and the transition from the P-3, as well as energy conservation and environmental stewardship efforts. The base is an economic driver in the region, said Mayor-elect Alvin Brown (right), who spoke to the crowd before Maclay’s presentation and said he would maintain and support the strong relationship between the City and the military during his time as mayor. The base encompasses about 22,000 people with an annual payroll of $1.28 billion and an economic impact of $2.1 billion in the community.
