Celebrate at lunch — it’s summer! Summer starts at 1:16 p.m. today in the Northern Hemisphere, Eastern Daylight Time. It’s the summer solstice and called the “longest day” of the year as the sun reaches its most northern point in the sky. From today on, the days grow shorter until the winter solstice Dec. 22. One way you know it’s summer is when you’re able to wiggle your toes in the grass. Sharla Valeski, artist and owner of The Next gallery on Laura Street, has a different take on it. She covered a pair of Rockports with artificial turf, flowers and birds. The shoes are part of the gallery’s latest exhibition, “Shoe Fly Shoe.” Valeski said the shoes can be worn. Take a walk in the grass, in grass. They’re men’s size 9.5.
