Mary Louise Carter was the first person in line Monday morning for early voting at the Supervisor of Elections Office at 105 E. Monroe St. Carter said she has voted in every election since she cast her first ballot for John F. Kennedy in the 1960 presidential election. In the 2010 general election, 262,675 of the 528,946 registered voters in Duval County cast ballots, a 49.7 percent turnout. Of those, 52,282 (19.9 percent) voted early. Early voting is available seven days a week through March 20. For times and locations, visit www.duvalelections.com. At the close of business Monday, the Supervisor of Elections reported 1,788 voters cast their ballots on the first day of early voting. In addition, 5,205 voters have returned their absentee ballots out of more than 37,000 that were requested. The total number of ballots cast on the first day of early voting was 6,993, which is 1.36 percent of the 514,771 voters eligible to cast their ballot in the March 22 election.
