The latest installation of new street furniture along Laura Street is in the form of informational kiosks that will offer wayfaring information to pedestrians. When the project is complete, a kiosk will be in place on each block from the Landing to Hemming Plaza.
The main feature of the kiosks will be a map showing the location of Downtown landmarks such as the Sports Complex and the new County Courthouse, said Paul Crawford, deputy executive director of the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission and Laura Street project manager.
In addition, the JEDC staff is designing a directory of retail businesses in the area to be posted on the kiosks.
Crawford also said the $3 million Laura Street improvement project, which officially began with a groundbreaking ceremony in February 2010, is scheduled to be “substantially complete” before the May 26-29 Jacksonville Jazz Festival.
