Michelle Tappouni, general manager at Breaking Ground Contracting has been appointed to the City of Jacksonville’s Environmental Protection Board by Mayor John Peyton and the Jacksonville City Council. The appointed nine-member board is an enforcement body for environmental matters in Duval County that consists of nine members who are appointed by the mayor and City Council. Members are chosen to represent industry, conservationist organizations, professional engineers, the medical profession and the general public.
“I am honored to be appointed to the Environmental Protection Board and look forward to enhancing the quality of life for our citizens by protecting Duval County’s natural environment,” said Tappouni, who works in sustainable construction and education at Breaking Ground.
The board develops regulations necessary for administration and enforcement of the city’s environmental laws. It conducts investigations of complaints, takes testimony in matters under its jurisdiction and provides a hearing platform for environmental issues within the city.
She will serve a four-year term.
