• The application deadline for two open seats on the First District Court of Appeal is today. Fourth Judicial Circuit Judges Jim Daniel and Waddell Wallace have filed applications. The openings were created by the resignations of Charles J. Kahn Jr. and Peter D. Webster.
• Irony: Speaking at the Jacksonville Port Authority Logistics and Intermodal Conference Tuesday, port CEO Paul Anderson revealed that his son has a toy collection that includes trucks, trains and airplanes, but no boats. “We are working on fixing that,” he said.
• Ready for some football? Acosta Sales & Marketing said it will host the season’s first corporate Team Teal Rally today for its associates to demonstrate Acosta’s Jacksonville Jaguars spirit, sell season tickets and generate excitement for the football season. Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver and Team Teal Commissioner Tony Boselli will talk about the season with more than 125 Acosta associates at the 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. event and fish fry. Acosta is subsidizing the cost of season tickets for its associates. Acosta is at Butler Boulevard and Interstate 95.
• Kathy Donald, personal lines development analyst at The Main Street America Group, was the Jacksonville employee chosen among eight workers for the Jacksonville-based company’s highest honor. The eight were inducted into the property/casualty insurance company’s “Circle of Excellence” for contributing to the company’s financial strength. The other winners were from New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
• The Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce reports that the campaign to fund its Cornerstone V program has passed the 90 percent mark, reaching $10 million of its $11 million goal to fund economic development activities for the next five years.
• The free “Movies in the Park” program returns next month. Starting April 8, family movies will be shown Friday nights at Treaty Oak Park along Prudential Drive under the stars, starting about 8 p.m. Shows are “Cars,” April 8; “The NeverEnding Story,” April 15; “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,” April 29; and “The Wizard of Oz,” May 6. • Members of the Northeast Florida Association of Realtors plan more than 800 open houses tomorrow and Sunday and more will be added (check www.NEFAR.com). It’s part of the second annual Florida Open House Weekend. “NEFAR members are holding open houses in all areas of Northeast Florida and at all price ranges,” says 2011 NEFAR President Dane Leslie. Blue balloons featuring the signature Realtor “R” in white will be displayed at open houses throughout Florida to denote participation.
• Chevy is partnering today with the 100 Black Men of Jacksonville, the Jacksonville Port Authority, the Jacksonville Aviation Authority and the Jacksonville Transportation Authority to share career opportunities and career counseling to young job seekers. The “Chevy Career Crawl” is a traveling career fair. Mentors and mentees from 100 Black Men of Jacksonville will travel in new 2011 Chevy vehicles to the JPA, JAA and the JTA, where they will hear about career options. They will learn the types of skills and characteristics each agency values in job candidates and how to apply for employment. The event is 10 a.m.-4:15 p.m. and it will start and conclude at Jerry Hamm Chevrolet at 3494 Philips Highway.
• Jacksonville Community Council Inc. asks JCCI members and the public to identify the most important topics “for community conversation, deliberation, decision and action.” The organization said the input helps it set its agenda for the coming year. You can submit your ideas at www.jcci.org (click on “2011-2012 Topic Survey”), but hurry. The survey will close at 5 p.m. Monday.
• The St. Johns Riverkeeper has chosen Mayor John Peyton as the “2011 River Advocate Award Recipient” for his commitment during his two terms to protecting the river. The annual Mayor’s Environmental Luncheon is today at the Main Library. The Riverkeeper will present its annual advocacy, education and volunteer awards.
