• Gov. Rick Scott and the Florida Sterling Council announced winners of the Governor’s Sterling Award and the Sustained Performance Excellence Award for 2011. The Manatee County Tax Collector and The Depository Trust and Clearing Corp. in Tampa won Sterling Awards. Shands Jacksonville Medical Center and the St. Johns County Health Department won Sustained Excellence Awards, along with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Hillsborough County Tax Collector’s Office.
• Speaking of Scott, there’s a good chance you’ll see him in the media this week following the Legislature coming to a close. According to his daily schedules, he conducted numerous media interviews from outlets across the state Saturday and at least eight more Monday.
• Correction: In Monday’s Daily Record, Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce Downtown Council President Pat Geer’s name was spelled incorrectly.
• Moving up: Two Flagler employees are taking new roles within the company. Karl Hanson has been named vice president of Asset Management Services. In his new role, Hanson will be responsible for managing Flagler’s suite of asset management services it provides to institutions handling commercial real estate. He’ll continue working from Flagler’s Jacksonville office. Hanson’s prior role as North Florida market officer will now be assumed by John Guitar, vice president and Central Florida market officer, who will now also be responsible for Flagler’s North Florida assets.
• Bankruptcy filings in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court Middle District of Florida were down 16.4 percent during the first four months of 2011 from 2010. Filings in the Jacksonville division were down 15.2 percent.
