• The University of North Florida Police Department and the Florida Department of Transportation scheduled a “Click It or Ticket” event at 10 a.m. today at UNF. They plan to present data about state and local crashes and fatalities involving area young people. The agencies will present an initiative to show campus students that a seat belt “is the best way to stay alive, day or night.” The fine for a seat belt ticket in Duval County is $114.
• The Jacksonville Concussion Summit 2011 is scheduled for 8 a.m.-3 p.m. June 4 at Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital. National and local authorities in the treatment of traumatic brain injury and/or concussion will provide information about providing care. The event is designed to help athletes of all ages receive appropriate diagnosis and treatment so they can return safely to play. Jacksonville Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver will present the opening address.
• Instead of hauling books to the Fairgrounds, the Friends of Jacksonville Public Library scheduled the next big book sale June 24-26 at the Book Warehouse at the University Park Library, 3435 University Blvd. N. “We sort books there and we sell some there every week at our Saturday Morning Bookstore,” said Friends President Harry Reagan. “Instead of hauling all of our books to the Fairgrounds, we’re asking shoppers to come to where the books are, at our warehouse.” Proceeds supplement the Jacksonville Public Library budget.
