• A University of North Florida poll released this morning shows that Jacksonville voters give Mayor Alvin Brown an approval rate of 63 percent. The survey was taken Nov. 7-15 among 574 registered Jacksonville voters. UNF Political Science Department Chair Matthew Corrigan said the approval numbers are similar for both Democrats and Republicans. Among the remaining 37 percent, the survey found 10 percent disapproved and 27 percent were undecided. Also, 69 percent of voters said they were optimistic about the direction of Jacksonville.
• The Gunster firm added three attorneys from the law firm of Ivan, Cole, Bonnette & Kane. Joining Gunster’s Jacksonville office and its Private Wealth Services practice are John Cole, Kevin Kane and Jason Van Lenten.
• Two Florida State University College of Law students, including William Thompson of Jacksonville, won first place in the 2011 American Bar Association Regional Negotiation Competition Nov. 12-13 in Raleigh, N.C. Thompson and Jared Snyder of Coral Springs, both first-year students, advance to the national competition Feb. 3-4 in New Orleans.
• Correction: At Thursday’s meeting of the Duval County Tourist Development Council, the National Team Roping event was awarded a grant for $10,000 for marketing and advertising. An incorrect amount was reported Friday in the Daily Record.
• Notice was posted Friday for the public meeting at 4 p.m. today in City Hall, in Suite 425, Conference Room A, for City Council member Bill Gulliford’s meeting with Ron Mallett, Sam Mousa, Steve Diebenow, Derek Igou and Wyman Duggan to discuss pending legislation 2011-732 (government reform).
