For more than 40 years, members of The University Club have had one of the best Downtown views available.
Tradition is one of the foundations of the club, but so is keeping up with the desires and preferences of its members, said Sarah Bernstein, membership director.
That’s why about half of the club’s environs on the 27th floor of Riverplace Tower have been redesigned with the addition of MeLS Grille, named in honor of the three most tenured club staff.
“We’ve updated our iconic Downtown tradition to better serve our members. Now we’re able to offer our signature formal dining and a more casual atmosphere,” said Bernstein.
Another new amenity is the pair of “Touchdown Rooms,” which are available for private one-on-one meetings and other business functions like interviews.
“Our members tell us that puts them on a different level than meeting at a coffee shop,” said Bernstein.
She said the club is growing, with members inviting friends and colleagues to join each month. Bernstein conducts tours for prospective members on a regular basis and said being invited to join is easier then some people think.
“With 1,400 members, everybody knows somebody who’s a member of The University Club,” she said.
The club is hosting an event from 7-10 p.m. Oct. 15 that’s open to the public, the 5th Annual Charity Classic cocktail gala, wine tasting and silent auction. The event is $35 per person and 100 percent of the proceeds are donated to charity, said Bernstein.
