The Downtown branch of SunTrust Bank at Laura Street and Independent Drive hosted its grand opening celebration Friday.

The star of the show was the Grand Am Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona prototype Class SunTrust Racing Chevrolet Dallara and its driver, Ricky Taylor (above).

When he’s not behind the wheel, Taylor is studying mechanical engineering at the University of Central Florida.

Taylor and his driving partner, Max Angelelli, finished the 2011 season in second place in the class points race and their combined 613 laps led are the most ever by a SunTrust Racing duo. Taylor earned six pole positions this season, also an all-time record for SunTrust Racing.

Taylor said the car will hit a top speed of about 200 mph, but wasn’t interested in trying it out on the roundabout in front of the Landing.
