To prepare for the special primary election Sept. 20, the Duval County Supervisor of Elections office will test voting machines today.
The testing, required by Florida law, starts at 9:30 a.m. at the elections center at the Gateway Mall, at 5200-2 Norwood Ave., on the second floor.
The special primary election involves 129 precincts and is a closed primary election. Only registered Democrats residing in Florida Senate District 1 will be eligible to vote.
The election is the first step to determine who will replace former state Sen. Tony Hill, who resigned to join the staff of Mayor Alvin Brown.
Candidates running for the District 1 seat in the primary are Ramon Day, Terry Fields, Audrey Gibson and Leandrew Mills III.
The special general election will be held Oct. 18 between the winner of the primary and write-in candidate Andrea Felicia Austin.
All registered voters residing in District 1 are eligible to vote in the general election regardless of party affiliation.
Voters should check their voter information card or call the Supervisor of Elections Office at 630-1414 to find out if they live in the district.
