As our community continues to face a tight economy and shrinking budgets, the Daily Record has established this page that will each week chronicle the efforts of local nonprofit organizations. Bailey Publishing & Communications invites all members of the local nonprofit community to submit news, announcements, success stories and any other information they believe would be of interest to our readers. Email to: [email protected].
We also encourage our readers to become more aware of the needs of these worthy organizations as they try to continue to provide valuable services with reduced resources.
Realtors and contractors donate school supplies to Daniel
NAIOP of Northeast Florida, a regional commercial real estate trade association, supported local nonprofit Daniel with a “Back to School Backpack and School Supply Drive.”
NAIOP and its members donated backpacks filled with school supplies, including folders, rulers, calculators, crayons, markers, three-ring binders and paper to the organization and the children it serves.
“Our members stepped up to the plate for this drive by donating school supplies and backpacks to children on the First Coast who desperately needed them,” said Julie Bohn, 2011 NAIOP of Northeast Florida charity chair.
“Daniel is an organization we support throughout the year, and this was another chance for NAIOP to assist a nonprofit that truly makes a difference in our community,” she said.
NAIOP’s largest contributors to the drive included RL Haines General Contractor, Grubb & Ellis Phoenix Realty, RS&H, Cantrell Real Estate and Cantrell & Morgan Inc.
Cantrell Real Estate and Cantrell & Morgan Inc. donated the backpacks that accompanied the supplies collected.
Daniel is Florida’s oldest and largest nonprofit child-service agency. Originally established as an orphanage in 1884, Daniel has evolved into a multiservice agency that assists more than 1,000 children, adolescents and families each day with innovative and nationally recognized programs.

Massage Envy supports ‘World Arthritis Day’
Massage Envy has joined forces with the Arthritis Foundation to host “Healing Hands for Arthritis,” a one-day national event to build awareness and raise funds to fight arthritis.
On World Arthritis Day, Oct. 12, Massage Envy Jacksonville will donate $10 from every one-hour massage and facial to the Arthritis Foundation. Prices for facials and massages start at $39 for an introductory session.
“There’s no better way to give back than to treat yourself, a friend or family member to a relaxing and rejuvenating massage or facial,” said Sue Kowalewski, Massage Envy regional developer.
To make an appointment for the Healing Hands for Arthritis event, contact one of the six area locations at 821-3689. Reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
All proceeds donated during Hearing Hands for Arthritis will support the Arthritis Foundation’s nationwide efforts to prevent, control and cure arthritis and related diseases.
Murad, Massage Envy Spa’s skin-care partner, as well as Wyndmere, Massage Envy’s aromatherapy partner, will donate 10 percent of all sales from their products sold at Massage Envy locations during the event to the Arthritis Foundation.
“Partnering with the Arthritis Foundation was a natural fit, as we both a share a common understanding about the seriousness of the disease, the power of massage therapy to relieve certain symptoms, and what must be done to prevent, cure and control it,” said Kowalewski.
Over the past two years, Massage Envy has donated nearly $100,000 to fund clinical research related to the benefits of massage therapy.
Recent scientific studies have found that massage therapy increases immune function, decreases stress levels and reduces recovery time in many medical conditions including arthritis.
With consumers visiting massage therapists at least 140 million times a year, more Americans are turning to therapeutic massage to relieve the symptoms of arthritis and fibromyalgia.
The therapists at Massage Envy clinics can design customized massage treatments to address the individual needs of any member or guest.
