• Jim Eaton has joined The Haskell Co. as vice president and Healthcare Division leader. He will be responsible for the oversight and expansion of Haskell’s facilities and construction services for the health care marketplace.

• The 2012 Political Hob Nob is 5-7 p.m. today at the Hyatt Downtown. It’s sponsored by WOKV FM-106.5 and AM-690, the JAX Chamber and ImpactJAX, the chamber’s group of young professionals. To see a list of candidates expected at the event, visit www.wokv.com/hobnob. There also will be a straw poll that includes key races.

• 7-Eleven has a business license to operate at 1287 Lane Ave. S.

• The City issued permits totaling almost $1 million for Gate Petroleum Co. to build a gas station and convenience store at 11040 McCormick Road, near the site of a station it closed across the street. Auld & White Constructors will build the 4,893-square-foot store. The City also approved four signs for the project. Jacksonville-based Gate bought the 6.85-acre site in June from the Jacksonville Transportation Authority for $1.2 million.

• Capt. Joseph McQuade with the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville is scheduled to talk today with the JAX Chamber Health Council. His topic is “Obesity Conundrum 2012: Helping Employees Value Fitness.” The event is 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Brighton Bay Resort at Baymeadows Road off of the Interstate 95 East Beltway.
