Public Defender Matt Shirk will serve another four years in the role following his defeat of challenger Charles “Chuck” Fletcher, a criminal defense attorney. Shirk was elected in 2008 and appeared to run unopposed before Fletcher submitted paperwork on the final day of filing for office. More than 130,000 ballots were cast in the nonpartisan race open to all voters, with Shirk receiving 63.2 percent of the vote compared to Fletcher’s 36.8.
