Former JEA Chief Operating Officer James Chansler resigned Friday, according to a utility spokeswoman. Chansler had been appointed vice president and general manager of water and wastewater systems under new CEO and Managing Director Paul McElroy's executive staff reorganization.

No details of Chansler's resignation were available.

"Mr. Chansler has resigned. (Friday) was his last day," said Gerri Boyce, JEA spokeswoman.

A new chart of JEA's organizational structure sent Friday to JEA employees did not include Chansler's name.

Chansler had worked at the utility since 1997.

McElroy presented the utility's new organizational structure, which did not include Chansler's COO position, Nov. 20 to its board of directors.

Instead, he was appointed to the McElroy-created leadership position for waste and wastewater systems. The position oversees a water system consisting of 136 artesian wells tapping the Floridan aquifer. Water is distributed through 36 water treatment plants and 4,619 miles of water lines.

The JEA sewer system comprises 3,925 miles of collection lines and seven regional and seven non-regional sewer treatment plants.

Under McElroy's reorganization, JEA also is seeking candidates for the chief financial officer position he vacated and for chief customer officer. McElroy created that position to help improve JEA customer service.
