The Florida Department of Transportation won a $10,000 prize in a national competition for reconstruction of the I-10/I-95 interchange. On Thursday, (from left) FDOT District 2 Interim Secretary Nicholas Tsengas and FDOT Assistant Secretary for Engineering and Operations Brian Blanchard presented the proceeds to University of North Florida President John Delaney, UNF College of Computing, Engineering and Construction Dean Mark Tumeo and college Director of Development Jill Jackson. UNF will use the money for its civil engineering and transportation programs. “The Big I,” as it is known, received the award for being on time, among other criteria. “The project finished six months ahead of schedule, which saved taxpayer dollars and countless commuting headaches,” Tsengas said. The project was in competition with 40 other projects throughout nine states.
