• Lender Processing Services Inc. Monday reported a fourth-quarter net loss due to charges related to “estimated legal and regulatory contingencies.” Jacksonville-based LPS, which provides technology services for mortgage lenders, has been under investigation by a number of federal and state authorities for the past two years on allegations that a subsidiary falsified documents used in foreclosure proceedings. LPS recorded a net loss of $21.2 million, or 25 cents per diluted share, for the fourth quarter. That included 63 cents per share in legal and regulatory charges. The results also were affected by 18 cents in charges related to exiting non-core business and 21 cents in other one-time charges.
• Gov. Rick Scott appointed Stanley Weston to the Commission on Ethics. Weston has been a partner at Moseley Prichard Parrish Knight & Jones since 1994. Previously, he was an assistant general counsel for the City of Jacksonville from 1985-93. His term began Monday and ends June 30, 2013. The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
