The Jacksonville Amtrak station welcomed more than 500 feet of history Saturday and Sunday as Amtrak’s Exhibit Train arrived to celebrate the company’s 40th anniversary. The seven-car train is a rolling museum of the history of Amtrak in America, and it has been touring the country since National Train Day, May 7. Before Amtrak opened for service May 1, 1971, the U.S. did not have a national railroad company, but was served by dozens of regional systems. The exhibit displayed Amtrak uniforms, advertising, passenger seating, dining car seating and model trains.
