Rubio talks debt, defense

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio met with about 20 JAX Chamber leaders Monday to hear their concerns and discuss his views about government. The Republican senator from Florida talked about the growing U.S. debt and his fear of a “European-style debt crisis” at home. “No one can deny we have a serious problem right now,” he said. Bipartisan efforts can succeed only to a certain degree, he said. Proposed defense budget cuts have him “very worried.” He said they are unsustainable “in a world more dangerous than it’s ever been.” Rubio said taxes are not the way to raise revenues. “We don’t need new taxes, we need new taxpayers,” he said.
