• Investment banker Sheryl WuDunn, senior fellow at Yale University and former New York Times Beijing correspondent, will be the guest speaker at the Global Business Luncheon from noon-1:30 p.m. Feb. 14 at The River Club. Her topic will be “China: An Economic Outlook.” That evening, she is scheduled to speak at 7 p.m. at the University of North Florida about “The China Challenge.” For information, visit the World Affairs Council of Jacksonville website at www.worldaffairscounciljax.org. • Buybuy Baby is on the way. The City issued a permit Tuesday for Kennedy Contractors Inc. to build out space at 8801 Southside Blvd., No. 10, for the baby-goods retailer at a project cost of $1.28 million. A spokeswoman said last week the retailer, part of the Bed Bath & Beyond chain, would open in the spring in about 25,000 square feet of space. The location is in Timberlin Village.

• Correction: The names of Northeast Florida Association of Realtors President Dane Leslie and Gonzalo Mejia with Watson Realty were incorrect in a Daily Record story on page A-3 on Tuesday.

• Correction: A story about the Jacksonville Port Authority in the Daily Record Tuesday incorrectly stated the costs to repair the port’s wharf system. The correct numbers are that in 2008, the wharves needed an estimated $24 million in repairs, but the JPA could only afford $5.8 million and began a phased project. A 2011 inspection showed the need for an estimated $31 million in repairs because of faster-than-anticipated deterioration.

• Rebecca Russo and Corey Kolb are joining the Burdette Ketchum marketing firm’s creative and interactive teams. Russo joins as art director and Kolb joins as associate interactive developer. Russo creates and designs advertising and marketing materials in multiple media within integrated brand campaigns. Kolb is a recent graduate of the University of North Florida with a bachelor of fine arts in graphic arts and digital media.

• The Metro Diner will add a third location Feb. 13 when it opens at the former Rite Spot at the Beaches.

• The Florida Bar seeks a new member of the public to serve on its governing board. The board member will replace Alvin Alsobrook, from Gainesville, whose second two-year term expires in June. Since 1987, two public members have served on the Bar’s 52-member governing board. The new board member would serve a two-year term starting June 22. • Jacksonville University plans “The Fiscal Forum, A Discussion with the Leading National Experts on the Federal Debt” from 1-2:30 p.m. Thursday at the JU Terry Concert Hall. JU graduate David Walker, founder and CEO of the Comeback America Initiative and former comptroller general of the United States, will be joined by Robert Bixby, executive director of the Concorde Coalition, for a discussion about fiscal responsibility and sustainability. • The first Jacksonville Startup Weekend drew more than 150 participants at the University of North Florida. Jennifer Chapman led The Pinstitute team to a first-place win. The Pinstitute helps bloggers build their own empire. TADA Language, a website offering short educational videos with practical dialogues in multiple languages for babies and toddlers, came in second. Third place went to Upeo, which redefines how school districts interact with and analyze their data. Winners received prizes worth more than $25,000 of inkind services to help launch their new businesses.

• Jacksonville Community Council Inc. presents its 2011 Quality of Life Progress Report at 10 a.m. Monday at the JCCI conference room, 2434 Atlantic Blvd.

• The Police Athletic League of Jacksonville Inc. will host its annual Julian E. Jackson Amateur Boxing Championship on Feb. 11 at PAL’s Julian Jackson Center, 3450 Monument Road, in the Ed Austin Regional Park. The event is held in honor of the late Julian Jackson, a longtime PAL supporter and bantamweight boxing champion.
