Susan Towler, vice president of the Jacksonville-based Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Foundation and executive director of community affairs for Florida Blue, was elected chair of Leadership Florida for 2012-13.

Towler is a graduate of Leadership Florida’s Class XXII and has served the organization since 2004.

Leadership Florida brings together leaders from around the state for educational programs and forums.

“As the new chair, I will seek to build upon its legacy, strive to identify new leaders and provide Florida’s established leaders the opportunity to strengthen our great state,” Towler said in a news release.

Towler is a member of the Southeastern Council of Foundations and the Florida Philanthropic Network. She serves on the board of the Florida Chamber Foundation and is a graduate of the University of Florida.

“Florida Blue is committed to the health and well-being of Florida’s communities,” said Patrick Geraghty, chairman and CEO of Jacksonville-based Florida Blue.

“As chair of Leadership Florida, Susan Towler will serve the state of Florida with the passion and dedication she has shown in leading the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Foundation.”

Leadership Florida stated that one of Towler's goals is to help develop and build upon its newest program, Connect Florida, which was created to educate and connect young professionals in the state.

Connect Florida’s incoming chair is Matthew Kampfe, director of development for Jacksonville-based Baptist Medical Center.

Leadership Florida said Towler and Kampfe will work together to enhance the strength of both programs.
