Circuit Judge Virginia Norton administered the oath of office Thursday to City Council President Bill Bishop, who was accompanied by his wife, Melody. Bishop said he is committed to “bringing fresh thinking” to the way the Council does business. “More and more, it’s not about the decisions that we make, but how business is conducted. We have a great opportunity to set an example for civility,” he said. Bishop said a new attitude is needed as the city moves forward. “We have only begun to realize our full potential. We are inferior to no one. It’s time to recognize and celebrate our own uniqueness,” he said. The new Council year starts Sunday.
