The Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women celebrated its 40th anniversary Tuesday by honoring five women as the “2012 Women’s History Month” honorees at the Thomas G. Carpenter Library at the University of North Florida. A poster featuring them, with the theme “Women in Motion,” will be displayed at the library along with honoree posters dating back to at least 1986. Accepting honors this year were (from left) Audrey Moran, senior vice president of Social Responsibility & Community Advocacy, Baptist Health; Missy Boney, accepting for her mother, the late Ann Baker, a community activist; Laine Silverfield, former executive director, Dreams Come True; Mayor Alvin Brown; Rebecca Williams, accepting for her mother, the late Derya Williams, former CEO of River Region Human Services Inc.; and Mary Setzler, founder of the PFC Tavarus D. Setzler Foundation.
