• The New York Jets announced Wednesday night that they have agreed in principle on a trade with the Denver Broncos for quarterback Tim Tebow. The news came about nine hours after the Jets first announced at 1 p.m. on an agreement for the trade, but the deal went on hold to resolve a contract question. Terms weren’t announced, but reports said the Jets will give up fourth- and sixth-round draft picks and take Denver’s seventh-round pick. In the meantime, the Jacksonville Jaguars briefly re-entered the chase.

• The Jacksonville University Women’s History Month Committee announced that three women will be honored at its 2012 Women’s History Month Luncheon: Debbie Pruitt, JU Community Woman of the Year, also the keynote speaker; Kristie Gover, JU Woman of the Year; and Abbie Beates, JU Student of the Year. The event is 12:15-1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the JU Frances Bartlett Kinne Center.

• JAX Chamber plans its annual trip to Washington, D.C., May 30-31. The “Legislative Fly-In” to meet with elected officials and others is priced at $950 a person for the hotel stay, lunches and dinner, but excludes airfare and transportation to and from the airport. • QBE First spokeswoman Paula Symons offered a statement about the Atlanta-based finance and insurance company’s decision to lay off 81 employees at its Jacksonville office at 8655 Baypine Road. In an email, she wrote: “Following a review of business volume and demand across the country, QBE FIRST has announced job eliminations, the majority of which are in its Jacksonville, Fla., office. This was a very difficult decision for QBE, but necessary from a business standpoint.”

• Gator Bowl Association President and CEO Rick Catlett is scheduled as keynote speaker at the monthly breakfast of the Arlington Council of JAX Chamber. The meeting is 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Courtyard by Marriott in Kendall Town Center. For information, visit www.arlingtoncouncil.org.

• City Public Communications Officer Ginny Walthour will leave the position March 30 to join the Burdette Ketchum public relations and marketing firm. She’s been with the City for more than six years.

• The Jacksonville-based Wounded Warrior Project announced the Carry Forward Awards, an outreach campaign and award event. WWP will recognize individuals who support wounded veterans in their communities. Nominations are being accepted through April 30 at wwpcarryforwardawards.org. Finalists will be selected and their stories will be featured on the event website. The public will be able to vote for favorite nominee stories and the winners’ stories will be featured at a fundraising event Oct. 21 in Anaheim, Ca.

• Jersey Mike’s Subs officially opens its first Jacksonville location Wednesday at 4261-5 Roosevelt Blvd. Franchise owner Dale Herring and his sons and co-owners Colby and Matt Herring plan the opening event and fundraiser from Wednesday through April 5 to support the Florida State College at Jacksonville Kent Campus. The store operates 10 a.m.-9 p.m. daily.

• Construction has begun on the Tractor Supply Co. store at 9026 New Kings Road. It will be the Brentwood, Tenn-based company’s 40th Florida location. Tractor Supply Co. is the largest retail farm and ranch supply store chain in the United States. The new store will employ 12-17 full- and part-time employees. DiMare Construction of St. Augustine began building the store on Feb. 20 and a completion date is expected in late July.

• Hamburger Mary’s Bar & Grille will open at 3333-1 Beach Blvd.  in St. Nicholas. The California-based chain also has Florida locations in Orlando and Tampa. With strong name recognition in the gay and lesbian community, Hamburger Mary’s bills itself as an “open-air bar and grille for open-minded people,” where everyone is welcome.  It expects to open May 4.

• The City Council Courthouse Oversight Special Committee called its next meeting for 4 p.m. April 2 in the Council Chamber in City Hall.
