Mayor Alvin Brown spoke with longtime lawyer Charlie Towers of the Rogers Towers firm before Brown’s speech Monday to a joint lunch meeting of the Catholic Lawyers Guild and the Christian Legal Society at The University Club. Brown talked about the role of faith in his leadership of the City and also about his vision. “You can’t just have faith and sit back,” he told the almost 90 lawyers in attendance. “I am working hard, every day,” he said. Brown also took questions, including a few about the pending opening of the new Duval County Courthouse, which has been in question because of a dispute over the City’s provision of furniture. “I believe it will work out,” Brown said, without elaboration. “It’s going to get done.” Brown spoke several hours before a City Council vote on the issue.
