• Christopher Creswell, associate director of bands at Fleming Island High School in Clay County, has joined Jacksonville University as its new marching band director. Creswell, who was chosen from a national pool of 50 candidates, officially begins Aug. 15. The band will begin playing at sporting events this fall. The university is collecting applications to join the band, which is open to all majors.

• The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District will host a public meeting on the Jacksonville Harbor Navigation Deepening Study at 6:30 p.m. May 22 at the Jacksonville Port Authority Cruise Terminal, 9810 August Drive. The district is conducting a study to increase the depth of the existing federal channel along the St. Johns River from its current depth of 40 feet to a maximum depth of 50 feet. The study is focused on the portion of the harbor up to river mile 14. The study will evaluate navigation concerns and provide recommendations for investigating navigation improvements.
