Florida Blue, formerly called Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Inc., announced Tuesday that it intends to create 200 jobs in Jacksonville through its Novitas Solutions Inc. subsidiary.
The positions will be based at the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Building at 532 Riverside Ave.
They result from a Medicare administration contract awarded to Novitas Solutions, which serves as the Medicare Administrative Contractor for the jurisdiction of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C.
With the new contract, Novitas Solutions becomes the contractor for the jurisdiction covering Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas.
The jobs will be announced at a news conference at the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Building.
Florida Blue Chairman and CEO Pat Geraghty, Mayor Alvin Brown and Steve Booma, chairman of Novitas Solutions Inc. and Florida Blue executive vice president of strategy and diversification, are scheduled to make the announcement.
Florida Blue is a not-for-profit, policyholder-owned, tax-paying mutual company headquartered in Jacksonville. It is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, an association of independent Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies.
Novitas Solutions is a wholly owned subsidiary of Diversified Service Options, which is a holding company that is wholly owned by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida Inc.
Novitas Solutions provides administrative services processing for government-sponsored health care programs on behalf of Diversified Service Options, which was created in 1998 to address the company’s long-term government business strategies.
It was established as a holding company for fee-for-service government health care companies that include First Coast Service Options Inc., the current Medicare Administrative Contractor for the jurisdiction covering Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Novitas Solutions.
