A record number of voters helped select a majority of seats on The Jacksonville Bar Association 2012-13 board of governors and the names were announced at the annual golf and tennis outing and meeting Thursday at the Deerwood Country Club.

The JBA President Michael Freed of Brennan, Manna & Diamond announced that online and on-site voters totaled 532. Members could vote online or in person at the annual meeting.

The membership re-elected Tad Delegal of Delegal Law Offices, Giselle Carson of Marks Gray and Troy Smith of Rogers Towers, who served as secretary on the 2011-12 board.

New members are Fraz Ahmed of Kubicki Draper, Michael Bateh of the Fourth Circuit Public Defender’s Office and Elizabeth Howard of Boyd & Jenerette. Howard served on the 2011-12 board as the Young Lawyers Section representative.

Ray Driver of Driver McAfee had been elected president-elect for the 2011-12 board and will succeed Freed as president in 2012-13.

Braxton Gillam of Milam Howard was elected as president-elect without opposition. He served as treasurer on the 2011-12 board.

“Ray Driver was elected president-elect last year, and there was no recall. He will be succeeding me and I can assure you that the Bar is in good hands,” said Freed.

The annual meeting also included an update on the new Duval County Unified Courthouse Facility.

Chief Circuit Judge Donald Moran thanked City Council for approving $750,000 for new furniture for the courthouse and Circuit Judges Mallory Cooper and Lance Day for representing the judiciary in the process of constructing the building.

“We are asking that everyone be patient when we open the new courthouse. The bailiffs will be trained and will be able to help people find their way around the new courthouse,” Day said.
