The former Warren Motors at 233 E. State St. Downtown has been demolished for construction of a Family Dollar store and a McDonald’s restaurant. Demolition began Monday with the back part of the building taken down first, leaving the main building. The remainder was demolished Wednesday. Companies led by Charleston, S.C., developer J.J. Lamberson bought the 1.5-acre site in two parts, totaling $1.425 million, and have taken out two mortgages, totaling $5.5 million, with TD Bank. He expects the stores to be up by March. The City approved the permit Sept. 24 for the $45,000 demolition project, which is being handled by HJB Construction Inc. of Charleston.
