Republican Aaron Bean will represent Northeast Florida as state Senator for District 4 after defeating Democrat Nancy Soderberg on Tuesday. Bean, a relationship development officer for Shands Jacksonville and former state representative, emerged with more than 62 percent of the 228,095 votes cast, winning over Soderberg, a visiting distinguished scholar at the University of North Florida and former U.S. ambassador. The count was 142,031votes for Bean compared to 86,064 for Soderberg. Bean defeated Mike Weinstein in a much-watched and heated primary, while Soderberg went unopposed. District 4 contains Nassau and parts of central and south Duval County, including the Beaches.
