With all precincts reporting, Republican Ronnie Fussell was leading Democrat Brenda Priestly Jackson this morning in the race to become the next Clerk of Court. Fussell, a former City Council president, has 47.6 percent of the 368,091 ballots cast, compared to Priestly Jackson's 45.9 percent. Fussell received 175,135 votes compared to Priestly Jackson's 168,928. Averrell Maynard Thompson and John Winkler, both with no party affiliation, combined to garner 6.5 percent of the vote. The margin between Fussell and Priestly Jackson is less than the number of provisional ballots that could still decide the race, meaning a winner has yet to be called, Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland said this morning. Holland said he hoped enough votes would be counted by this afternoon to declare a winner. The winner will succeed Jim Fuller, who was ruled ineligible to run for a fourth term due to term limits.
