Michelle Kalil defeated Rhonda Peoples-Waters in a runoff to earn the County Judge Group 12 seat. Kalil, a criminal defense attorney, gained 56 percent of the vote over Peoples-Waters, a personal injury and criminal defense attorney who is past president of the D.W. Perkins Bar Association. Both served in the Public Defender's Office in their careers. The race had 331,794 votes cast. Kalil will succeed Judge Harold Arnold, who will retire at the end of the year.
