The Young Lawyers Section of The Jacksonville Bar Association organized the "Tee it Up" golf tournament Oct. 18 at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club Ocean Course. The YLS raised more than $16,000 for Catholic Charities of Jacksonville as a result of the event.

The YLS previously suspended its annual tournament because of the economy. After a four-year hiatus, the "Tee it Up" golf tournament is back and is quickly on the rise of being one of the preeminent charity tournaments in the Jacksonville area.

This year, about 90 golfers participated, along with dozens of sponsors and volunteers. The crowd was blessed with perfect weather and an unexpected flight simulation by the famous Blue Angels. (The Blue Angels were in Jacksonville for the Sea & Sky Spectacular at Jacksonville Beach.) A silent auction and awards ceremony capped the memorable event.

The Jacksonville Bar Association Young Lawyers Section comprises area lawyers who are 35 years old or younger, or who have been practicing law fewer than five years.

The YLS has a large and enthusiastic membership and a very active and committed board of governors. The YLS is dedicated to providing diverse programming and projects designed to benefit young lawyers, all members of the bar and the community at large.

The Catholic Charities Jacksonville office served 18,071 individuals last year through its seven major programs. The agency's Emergency Assistance Program is the largest non-government provider of emergency financial assistance in our community. Last year this program helped keep 13,762 people safe in their home, preventing them from becoming homeless, and provided 46,035 meals for families in need.

"We were honored to be selected as the benefactor of this tournament. We were so impressed with this group of young adults' dedication and commitment to serving the community," said Jennifer Garizio, executive director of Catholic Charities in Jacksonville.
