President Barack Obama declared Friday "National Entrepreneurs' Day," so CoWork Jax, Downtown's center of entrepreneurship, offered free cooperative office space for the day.

The concept behind co-working is to have workspace, Internet access, Wi-Fi and traditional office amenities like a conference room and copy machine available on an as-needed basis.

Daily, weekly and monthly programs are available so business owners can access the infrastructure when it's needed, but avoid having to cover the cost when it's not.

Mike Glass was one of the first entrepreneurs to enroll at CoWork Jax in January when the 6,000-square-foot flexible workspace on the second floor opened at 5 W. Forsyth St. Glass develops apps for the iPad and iPhone and he's working on a template-based system designed to make it easier for businesses to create custom apps.

His company, Pocket Sevens, began as a home-based business. Glass said CoWork Jax has proved to be an asset for growing his business.

"I am so much more productive here than when I worked at home. It's unbelievable to be able to talk to like-minded people and be able to bounce ideas off each other," he said.
