The 2012 edition of “Gingerbread Extravaganza” opens Saturday at Old St. Andrews along A. Philip Randolph Boulevard near Veterans Memorial Arena. Each year, the historic former church is filled with dozens of handcrafted gingerbread houses depicting local landmarks and holiday themes. The confectionary creations are designed and constructed by some of the area’s top chefs, school groups and nonprofit organizations. The annual event is a fundraiser for the Jacksonville Historical Society. The suggested donation is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 3-16. Display hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday through Dec. 22. For more information, visit gingerbreadjax.org.
