Firehouse of America LLC technical writer Scott Schalk, celebrated in spirit Tuesday as “The Price is Right” celebrated its 40th birthday. He worked with the show for about four years, starting in 2004, and is shown in the group photo (bottom left) for the 35th anniversary.
“I grew up watching ‘The Price is Right’ every summer, and when I was too sick to attend school throughout the year,” he said Tuesday. “Growing up in South Florida, I never imagined that I would one day have the opportunity to be a part of an American institution. It was an absolute honor to work with Bob Barker and the production staff. Several close friends of mine still work on the show, and I congratulate them, the staff and crew as they celebrate the beginning of the show's 41st season.”
Schalk’s job was to interview the estimated 320 people lined up for each show and choose nine of them. He also briefed Barker on them before the show. Schalk estimates he and a colleague personally interviewed about 150,000 people for the show.
